The NAACP teams up with ride share company Lyft to drive voters to the polls on Election Day... The 2024 Lyft Up Voting Access Program will also provide crucial voting access information as well as discounted rides to the polls. On top of that, it will help both riders and drivers to register, prepare to vote, and understand the ins and outs of voter ID laws.... “During a time where our most sacred right to vote is under attack, we must fight back with every tool at our disposal,” said Derrick Johnson, NAACP president. “For many Americans, especially Black Americans, accessible and affordable transportation continues to impede access to the ballot box,” Johnson said. ...“Together, we will make sure every vote is counted and every voice is heard.” The Lyft Up Voting Access Program is aiming to increase its ride volume by 25% through its discounted and free rides to polling places. “Every American citizen should be able to exercise their right to vote without worrying about the cost or difficulty of getting to the polls,” said Lyft CEO David Risher. “Everyone — from a driver who’s given a thousand rides to a rider who hasn’t taken her first one yet — deserves to have their voice heard at the polls."
