Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), who ran against then-candidate Joe
Biden in the 2020 Democratic primary, is now urging his fellow Americans
to get behind his former rival in order to save the country. In a recent interview with the Guardian,
Sanders warned that if sent back to the White House for a second term,
former President Donald Trump would use the opportunity to fundamentally
and perhaps permanently change the United States' form of government.
Republican governors in more than a dozen states are shutting out more than 8 million children from a new federal food assistance program to support lower-income families this summer. Thirty-five states, including 13 states with GOP governors, have enrolled in the plan, which provides an additional $120 per child to buy food during the summer months when such assistance is not available in schools, where many American children rely on free or reduced lunch programs.
Roll Call - A consistent drip of members announcing they will not seek reelection combined with a desire to portray Capitol Hill as a toxic place everyone wants to flee can create a narrative that there’s a mass exodus underway from the House. But that’s not the real story, at least not yet. Up to this point, 38 House members have decided not to seek another term. Indiana Republicans Greg Pence and Larry Bucshon and Colorado Republican Doug Lamborn were the latest to announce, just in the last few days. Overall, that’s just a few more than average, and that’s with an asterisk.
A majority of
Americans—56%—are willing to see Donald Trump kicked off some or all
state ballots, according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll
Thom Hartmann - Following Trump’s new religion, Republicans are spitting in the face of Jesus. In the
Sermon on the Mount and the Parable of the Sheep and Goats, Jesus told his
followers that the only way to join him in heaven was to feed the hungry, heal
the sick, house/clothe the homeless/naked, and have compassion on those in
prison. Trump’s GOP has now fully rejected all of these commandments. Most
recently, the Biden administration (led by a man who actually attends mass
every weekend) has again offered to expand Medicaid to every state in the union
and also put $2.5 billion on the table for states to expand free meals to poor
children during the summer months when school lunches are not available. Almost
every Red state has rejected the Medicaid money and fifteen of them have turned
down the money for kids to eat this coming summer. But the GOP and
televangelists across the nation continue to tell anybody who’ll listen that
they’re the “Party of Christ.”

The hypocrisy of Christians never ceases to amaze. That they reject feeding the hungry and housing the homeless is a constant reminder that Christianity is mostly about power for the patriarchs
