After peaking in 2011, the number of 18- to 24-year-olds who are enrolled in college in the U.S. has fallen by approximately 1.2 million – mostly due to fewer young men pursuing degrees. Men now make up 44% of 18- to 24-year-olds in college, down from 47% in 2011.
