For sure, and it is the worst way to cover politics if you want an informed electorate.

The bottom line is that, in their pursuit of audiences and eyeballs and the dollars that follow, Politicians heavily hype anything dramatic, and give short shrift to substance. In other words, an emphasis on posturing, on horse races, on bickering and blood-letting takes heavy precedence over 'substance' and the policies that actually affect Americans.
Maybe the 'News' organizations aren't the only problem...
