Gaza update

Guardian -The director of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees  affairs has said society is “on the brink of full-blown collapse” in GazaThomas White, posting to social media, said: Civil order is breaking down in Gaza – the streets feel wild, particularly after dark – some aid convoys are being looted and UN vehicles stoned.He said the UN agency continues to serve the population of the Palestinian territory with what limited aid it has.

More journalists have been killed during Israel’s war with Hamas than in any other conflict in more than 30 years, a leading organisation representing journalists worldwide said. In its annual count of media worker deaths, the International Federation of Journalists  said 94 journalists had been killed so far this year and almost 400 others had been imprisoned.

The Biden administration has asked Congress to approve the sale of 45,000 shells for Israel’s Merkava tanks to be used in its offensive in Gaza, Reuters is reporting, citing a US official and former US official. The potential sale is worth more than $500m (£399m) and is under informal review by the Senate foreign relations and House of Representatives foreign affairs committees, it said.
