About three-quarters of Paris’ buildings feature gray zinc rooftops, in what has become a distinctive feature of the French capital. But the signature look has one major drawback: It’s making the city hotter. Eytan Levi, Tim Cousin, and Olivier Faber — a trio of “disruptive” designers who met at architecture school in Switzerland and later attended MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning together — noticed the rising temperatures while working in Paris and, following the lead of other European metros, landed on green rooftops as a solution.
