Florida Republicans go completely off the deep end with their deranged MAGA book bannings as William Shakespeare gets banned by certain schools in the Ron DeSantis-controlled state.
The reason for the ban? Just about the stupidest thing you can imagine.
... According to The Tampa Bay Times, the works of Shakespeare — the greatest writer in all of the Western canon — are being being banned in schools in Hillsborough County. Only select excerpt of his masterpieces will be permitted for study.
Astonishingly, teachers were informed of the idiotic changes just days before school resumed after summer vacation, leaving some of them scrambling to restructure their syllabi.
While some school district officials are saying that the changes are to ensure that a wider array of books and writing styles are covered, some are telling the blunt truth.
"It was also in consideration of the law," said the county's spokeswoman Tanya Arja, referring to Ron DeSantis' draconian "Parental Rights in Education Act."
"There’s some raunchiness in Shakespeare. Because that’s what sold tickets during his time," explained teacher Joseph Cool. The fear is clearly that hardcore Evangelicals will be offended by the material.
"I think the rest of the nation — no, the world, is laughing at us," added Cool.

Evangelical stems from the Greek word for good news — there’s nothing good about this news.
That these folks want to ban Shakespeare is among the whackiest things I have ever heard. It is as if they are saying we hate western civilization. Sort of opposite what they trying to tell us with their white supremacy. But you know the Bible has more sex in it thank Shakespeare, and the right wing crazies have not read that either. All they want to do is undercut learning so the most egregious can rule.
