N.Y. Times' Peter Baker: Unlike the indictment by New York State for allegedly covering up a payment to a porn actress and Mr. Smith's previous indictment for allegedly jeopardizing national secrets after leaving the White House, the new charges are the first to deal with actions taken by a president while in office."
Donald Trump's nightmare week worsens as a former lawyer for the Federal Election Commission sounds the alarm that Trump's PAC likely broke the law by requesting a $60 million refund from a MAGA super PAC to pay for Trump's mounting legal bills. . .The problems all started when Trump's Save America leadership PAC burned through a staggering $40 million in legal bills as it desperately attempted to keep Trump out of prison amidst escalating investigations and multiplying indictments.
To cover the costs, they requested that the Make America Great Again Inc [MAGA Inc] super PAC "refund" $60 million it had previously sent them — which would account for the largest "refund" of this kind in the history of federal campaigns.
The two PACs are legally required to act independently and are expressly forbidden from coordinating how each spends their donations. By demanding the money back to pay for legal bills, they were colluding in blatant and possibly criminal fashion. Crucially, the MAGA Inc Super PAC can receive unlimited donations while Trump's Save America PAC is legally limited to a $5,000 donation limit. Adam Noti, who was a lawyer for the FEC's litigation division, is calling attention to this possible lawbreaking.
The Manhattan district attorney seeking to jail Donald Trump over his hush money payment to a porn star is seeking to potentially weaponize the same piece of damning evidence that nailed the former president at his rape trial: the deposition where he said stars like him get away with sexual harassment “unfortunately—or fortunately.” It’s now up to a federal judge to decide whether those prosecutors can get a video that shows Trump at his worst: unapologetic about sexual assault, uttering misogynistic comments, and willing to lie to the American public to save his own skin.
Can Trump Con His Supporters Quickly Enough to Cover His Mounting Legal Bills? So far this year, Trump’s “Save America” PAC has spent a staggering $40 million on legal costs, and these bills will keep on coming.

Too bad when he should be sinking he seems to float. Amazing how many suckers there are in America and how many rich people who are willing to kill democracy rather than actually do the right thing on climate.
Whoever said a fool and his money are soon parted should still be around to see how many fools are failing to heed those prophetic words
