As a youth, it was explained to me (by a somewhat independent thinking priest) that Communion was sort of like a re-enactment of the Last Supper.
Heck, Jesus didn't prevent Judas from sitting by him at dinner.
And preventing Pelosi from receiving Communion is sort of like keeping her from sitting at the table, and maybe discussing things. But then, I don't think "The church" has ever entertained the idea of discussing things with anybody.
