I recently watched the third STAR WARS movie , Revenge of the Sith. And if this movie were just filmed, I would believe that it were some kind of political / social commentary on the recent political palaver here in the U.S.
The story involves Chancellor Palpatine being afforded increasing power in the Inter-Galactic Senate. Then, he was discovered to be the Sith Lord called Darth Sidious.
Of course, Palpatine visibly changes as he becomes known to be a Sith, unlike here on Earth where a political leader promoting disruptions to a Senate proceeding did not become any more ugly. And this fictional Inter-Galactic Senate holds a special session where Palpatine states a fictional narrative about the Jedi plan to overthrow the Senate, but that it was detected and defeated. Of course this Inter-Galactic Senate is elated and applauds generously while Palpatine says something about wanting a safe and secure society, and to ensure it, he will create a Galactic Empire (Note: His Galactic Empire). And the ‘kicker’ here is that Padme ( mother of Anakin Skywalker’s children ) says “So this is how Liberty dies, with thunderous applause”.
We really should avoid having an especially giddy Senate.
