Sam Smith - So you click on a headline and it takes you to a publication that has a paywall and won't let you see the story. Not a perfect solution, but one that works better than we expected, is to just google the headline, because most of these stories are in more than one publication.

outline.com often works too. Side benefit is that it strips the article down to just text.
You can also wait a couple of days and then search the URL in archive.vn. Or circumvent their "3 free articles" limit by opening the URL in an incognito window. Or subscribe to the publication's RSS feed, where you can often see articles for free that are paywalled at the main URL (this works with Arkansas Times).
Sometimes selecting reader view works.
Funnily enough I learned this trick a while back from reading the Progressive Review, thanks to all the times when the intriguing headline has no link!
