Sam Smith – The Senators who voted to acquit Donald Trump engaged in the most despicable official act in this country since the creation of the Confederacy and the commencement of the Civil War. Not surprisingly, a third of the votes to acquit Trump came from states that seceded from the union in the Civil War. This is not just another political decision that you may disagree with. This was an attempt to support a president who sought to overthrow the union and its constitution for his own personal benefit. He was trying to establish himself as a dictator.
This was not just another mistaken political choice, this was an effort to trash the basic rules by this country has been run for over two centuries. Those who voted, in effect, for a Trump dictatorship were not misguided Republicans; they were disloyal Americans willing to trash the basic principles of our country. They are Neo-Confederates seeking not just to secede from the union but to end it.
