Good idea of the day

Ann Loikow - I just wanted to suggest a way the American people might be able to thwart President Trump’s efforts to undermine the election and faith in our democratic system to remain in power. The key is to get every state/local election board to not release any voting results until after every vote is in and has been counted and to urge the media to be patient and wait for the final tally.

The number, or approximate number, of voters could be released earlier so people would understand how huge a task the counting will be and how long it will probably take. However, if no partial returns are released — and the media does not try to guesstimate them — then Trump can’t claim he won before the count is finished and sabotage the counting of the remainder of the ballots, i.e. the mailed ballot that are generally assumed to be more heavily Democratic.

In other words, we must let democracy work - all voters must get a chance to vote and their votes actually get counted. Only then can any of the process be challenged. The result should be stronger popular support for our democratic system and make it harder to contest the result, whatever it may be.
