While many men and women have gone into Politics with the best of intentions, and high ideals, one could look at politics as 'gang' warfare.
Members fight for territory (gerrymandering), infiltrate opposition (cross party lines, spying), demand belief/adherence to their particular/peculiar demands (religion, police, military), gang kit (three piece suit?), gang sign (perfectly coiffed hair and toothy smile), gang speak (Orwellian/Rovian double talk), lowered ride (new Cadillac), sex and drugs (sex and perks).
Big difference might be the retirement system, short life (posh retirement).
Disclaimer: Of course this is merely idol meanderings, not intended to insult any particular gang.

Politics is a synonym for cult. Someday we might wise up to that reality and begin to live like humans. Someday...
