Coronavirus update

Alan McQullan took a look at the virus death rates per thousand population. Italy and Spain lead the list (0.7 and 0.2 per thousand) with the US still down at 0.0008 per thousand.

We compared the death rate of cases with the current virus to those of previous flu epidemics of the past decade. The number of annual deaths ran up to 61,000 in 2017-18. If we have the same number of cases this year, current death rates suggest that 580,000 people will die.

World Health Organization - The first vaccine trial has begun just 60 days after the genetic sequence of the virus was shared by China. This is an incredible achievement. To ensure clear evidence of which treatments are most effective, WHO and its partners are organizing a large international study, called the Solidarity Trial, in many countries to compare different treatments.
