Sam Smith - The failure of the Pope to approve married priests in the Amazon indicates that on some important issues, he still lags by several centuries. Admittedly it's hard to change things like this, but the Pope could have, for example, allowed the decision as to priests and gender to be left up to individual countries or cardinals, which would have permitted incremental change of the better.
This is yet another sign that some of the great formulas of the West - Catholicism, The British monarchy, and American democracy - are continuing to collapse although it must be said on the Pope's behalf that he has done a far better job than, say, Boris Johnson or Donald Trump. In fact, he has infinitely more decency even if he still doesn't understand the true status of women in society.
