Near half of Republicans favor a more dictatorial president

Pew Research Center - The share of Republicans who say presidents could operate more effectively if they did not have to worry so much about Congress and the courts increased 16 percentage points over the past year, from 27% in March 2018 to 43% this past July.

I'm sure that the Pew Research Center does wonderful stuff, but I wish that I could have found the exact questions that had been asked in this survey. In the Methodology section, it states: “In addition to sampling error, one should bear in mind that question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias...”

I make the observation that the following two statements are Not “contrasting opinions”.

“it would be too risky to give U.S. presidents more power to deal directly with many of the country’s problems.”

“problems could be dealt with more effectively if U.S. presidents didn’t have to worry so much about Congress or the courts.”

Personally, I agree with both statements. With absolutely no reservations. However, regarding the second statement, while a President may deal with problems more “effectively” if they didn't have to worry about the Rule of Law, I don't believe that it would be a wise strategy.

Why???? Why would anyone living in a democracy be willing to relinquish their rights and the opportunity enjoy the privilege of living in a country where freedom and the rule of law prevails? Have so many forgotten what happens to society when dictators rule without consent of the people?
