Any public option that must compete with private insurance will either have the buy in be set as too expensive for anyone above the way too low poverty level, or it will be an unimproved medicare, like now where seniors are nickled and dimed and $50ed into abject poverty. The whole "public option" is to make sure that Medicare stays underfunded so only the poorest of the poor and the sickest of the sick will use that option, while leaving everyone else still subject to the abuses of hellish world of private insurance.
