Did the Supreme Court just quietly rule against ethnic equality?

Sam Smith -   The refusal of the Supreme Court to deal with gerrymandering involves far far more than the political issue it described. Gerrymandering is also used to discriminate against blacks and other minorities and should be considered a civil rights as well as a political matter.

No, the SCOTUS will still consider cases of ethnic/racial gerrymandering. See Virginia House of Delegates v. Bethune-Hill for a recent example.
