WAMU-Voting rights legislation passed in the House of Representatives on Friday includes a provision that endorses full congressional voting rights and self-government for the District, marking the first time a chamber of Congress has endorsed D.C. statehood.
“There is no other way to describe it—this is historic,” said the District’s representative in Congress, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), in a statement. “After decades of struggle, the House of Representatives recognized today that the time has come for D.C. statehood.”
While D.C. has a larger population than two states and residents pay more per capita in taxes than in any state, residents have no representation in the Senate and lack a full vote in the House.
Note: In 1970, your editor wrote the first article explaining how DC statehood could be achieved without a constitutional amendment. A few months later the DC Statehood Party was formed. In the most recent poll, 80% of DC residents support statehood.

Puerto Rico should also become a state. Maybe then it would get the aid and respect it deserves.
