Sam Smith - The National Capital Trolley Museum ran this photo from 59 years ago of the last streetcar to run between Washington and suburban Glen Echo. The reason it caught my eye is that I covered the trip as a radio news reporter for WWDC. I had one of maybe a dozen battery operated tape recorders that reporters in the city had at the time. I interviewed an old lady sitting next to a little boy. After the interview, the kid looked at my microphone and said, "What's that?" - which I remember because it was probably one of the last times in history that a little boy asked that question about a mike.
