Rules of Thumb

TREE ROOTS 
 
You can assume that the roots of normally shaped trees extend at least to the drip line of the branches.

Never assume.

Just what is 'Normal'?

How about: Tree roots extend laterally beyond the drip line of branches, unless impeded.
