Daily Beast - New York state investigators have subpoenaed former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen as part of their criminal investigation into the Trump Foundation, the Associated Press reports. A spokesperson for Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed the subpoena to AP reporters.

According to the WaPo, once Cohen learned that they were considering a subpoena, he called them to ask how he could help. This may be partly related to his guilty plea in the absence of a plea bargain, i.e., he has to be extra good if he wants time off his sentence.
The effect of this investigation may be to get around Mueller's commitment (and the DOJ policy) not to indict the president by going after his kids. This would be under NY law, so the prez couldn't pardon them.
