What's up

The coastal point in Maine from which this is published has been hit by one of the worst storms since Hurricane Carol in 1954. Some 45 trees in the first half mile from your editor's home fell across the road and power, cable TV and Internet are still down. Not a single repair truck in sight.  Even normally open 24 hours LL Beans main store closed for the fourth time in its long history.

Coming now from Isabella's Cafe and about to check out the library. Meanwhile you may have to depend on more conventional sources.

Was wondering what was happening - glad you're relatively OK... my LLB Bean pocket knife - rosewood handle - from the '70s is OK!

Cheers, Tom

Wow, Sam. Thanks for this update! We were getting more worried as the days went by without word from you. Nothing like an unexpected absence to remind us just how utterly reliable - and interesting - you have always been! Pretty sad to hear of all the destruction - Nature destroys her own, eh? - and concerned for the lack of signs of restoration help - but it is at least good to know you and yours aren't injured and or ill. I guess you are the Undernews now: haven't heard a thing in any media here in the central plains about your predicament after the storm. Hope the power gets fixed soon! Stay warm and dry and safe! We're rootin' for you, Toots!

All we got on the south coast of Mass was rain. A lot of rain.

Good that you and your spouse have come through okay!

Yikes, 45 trees down in the first half mile speaks of a storm of mega proportions.

Happy to here you were not blown away, Sam.
