Word: The meaning of kneeling

Benjamin Meiklejohn  - If you kneel before nobility and you kneel when you ask someone to marry you, then it seems that kneeling before the flag or during the national anthem is still ultimately a sign of respect and showing some level of subservience to the ideals of democracy. It should be noted that those kneeling during the anthem are still facing the flag and not turning their backs to it. I think they are showing an immense amount of patriotism for our country by protesting and expressing grievances about inequality in such a respectful and peaceful manner. Kneeling is an expression of respect and humility in every other instance when it is done. Why is it somehow now "disrespectful" to kneel during the anthem?

Just an "opinion" here, but I think there probably is a lack of clarity in the thinking of both "kneelers" and their critics. Obviously some sort of protest is intended by the "kneelers", and their critics are merely reacting without any clear sense of what they really intend, or what it is they think they observe. As a general encapsulation of both groups, kneelers and kneeler protestors, we might use the word "histrionics"

Don't understand B. Meiklejohn's stance. (no pun intended).

The only reason these 'kneelers' are receiving any attention at all is because it is diametrically opposite to what is expected at these Football games. And that is: high levels of Adrenaline, Testosterone, Alcohol associated with Budweiser (now ironic) Americana, Scantily clad cheerleaders. Basically 'mindless pseudo-warfare'.

To be Thoughtful, Philosophical, or in this case critical of someone acting just as you desire to witness - might be considered antithetical.

I'll wait to test my theory when/if someone on PBS kneels before a NOVA episode.

"If you kneel before nobility" then you're more than halfway to being a serf, and all the way to being despicable.

As the late "seynte Maries prest of York" died to ask us: whanne Adam dalf and Eva spanne / who wast then ye gentil manne?
