GOP leads in control of governments except for cities

Ballotpedia - Republicans emerged from the 2016 elections with control of both elected branches of the federal government, trifectas in 25 states, and control of at least one elected branch of state government in another 19. The partisan picture of the 100 largest cities looks quite different. While Republicans control the federal government and most states, the Democrats have the cities. Mayors affiliated with the Democratic Party outnumber Republicans 62-29. An additional seven are independents while two mayors are of unknown partisan affiliation
