According to the Democratic exit polling reported by CNN, by far the biggest gap in voters was age. 81% of those under 29 voted for Sanders, while 68% of those 66 and older voted for Clinton. Sanders got 67% of those under 45, while Clinton got 61% of those 45 and older.
Interesting also was how there was an age gap even within the young. Those voting for Sanders by age:
- 87% of those under 25
- 75% of those 25-29
- 61% of those 30-39
And, yes, the pre election poll averages were wrong - perhaps the worst we have seen. They had Clinton ahead 19 points as opposed to her actual loss by three points.
