Police Department, Bangor ME - There is an joke that speaks of all the toilets being stolen from the police station. The case goes unsolved due to the detectives having "nothing to go on." Hey, I did not say it was a good joke. It still makes me laugh, but so do old copies of Mad magazine, Far Side coffee table books and whoopie cushions.
Water at our station is being shut off for a short time this weekend, for repairs. This, of course, creates issues in the area of bathroom facilities...and making coffee. Never fear, porta-potties are being brought in to one of the garage bays and while I have heard mild grumblings, cops are used to the plastic poo-poo booths due to our outdoor concert details, the folk festival and other outside events that we work. We adapt.
There was discussion about placing them outside 240 Main Street but there was concern voiced that if someone caught on that cops were in #1 and #2 "police plaza", someone might pull the old, push over the pottie trick and nothing good can come of that.....
We would like to thank the powers that be for the decision to provide plastic relief zones for us as there might have been other options that were not so convenient. We also appreciate the concern shown by placing them in a garage bay. We hope that officers driving in and out of said bays will use extra caution when maneuvering near the "poly-phone booths of solitude" as well.
