Word: Earth Day

Tony Palmeri In 2010 on the 40th anniversary of the original Earth Day celebration I wrote a piece about how local media covered the event in 1970. Did you know that college students in northeast Wisconsin in 1970 wanted to amend the Constitution so that it would say this: “The people have a right to a clean and healthy environment and this right has priority over any use of the environment for private or public purposes. To secure and maintain this right there shall be an immediate, permanent and continuous end to any degradation of the environment by individuals, public agencies, and private corporations or individuals.”

I organized my HS for the first earth day. For the 45 I went back as Earth Day speaker.
