The collapse of network news

I'm surprised it's that high,
but it's trending properly.

Network News? What news? It is little more than Peoples Magazine on television.

Jon Stewart and Steve Cobert provided their audiences with much more hard news than any of the major networks or CNN.

Probably a similar trend line for Lucy reruns. The problem after 55 years is that the plot lines are stale and the audience by now can say the lines right along with the anchor. I remember watching Huntley-Brinkley when it started out at 15 minutes, probably a good idea today. TV news never found a replacement for Eric Sevareid. But no worse than the drop off in live childrens shows, musical variety shows, quiz shows, live comedy shows, the baseball game of the week with Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese. Ed Sullivan, Arthur Godfrey, Art Linkletter etc. No vast wasteland for me, rather a splendid team formerly led by FDR, that had defeated fascism and understood what was important.

When I first heard of the Brian Williams' scandal, I had no idea who he was or why he was a supposed celebrity.

I had to read the article to find out that he was a "network broadcaster."

Oh.
