Pocket paradigms

If you're going to be serious about politics -- the way a race track aficionado is serious about horses -- then the first thing you got to figure out is what's fact and what's fluff, what you can believe and what you can't. Sometimes political scientists can do the job, like Hubert Humphrey and Paul Wellstone, but usually it takes lawyers who live from the past, JQA, Sumner, Lincoln, FDR. They understand the ongoing civil war and never pretend that it's over.
