If, as appears likely, the GOP confederacy takes over the Senate in this fall's election, next January may mark the beginning of the worst period in American government since the Civil War. The destructive, indecent and corrupt GOP will be able to defund some of the best programs in our history while creating anarchistic chaos with the most incompetent and conservative Democratic administration of modern times. Nothing in the polling data suggests any shift towards sanity.
