Glee Violette -   US Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, head of the US Postal Service (USPS) resigned on Monday following reports of a fallout with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Louis DeJoy, a major Republican donor, was appointed in 2020 by Trump during his first term. Trump was trying to curtial mail-in voting. DeJoy reduced hours of branches and removed post boxes in neighborhoods that skewed Democrat, removed and destroyed expensive upgraded high-speed sorting machines, and removed drop boxes for ballots at post offices.

 

The US Post Office lost money over the changes DeJoy made to make the USPS less efficient. But Trump is not grateful, and is now considering either privatizing USPS, or potentially putting USPS under the Commerce Department.

 

According to The Washington Post, DeJoy finally fell completely out of favour with Trump after refusing to provide complete USPS data access to DOGE. Instead, DeJoy insisted that major changes should be made through Congress.

 

DeJoy had agreed to DOGE cuts of at least 10,000 jobs earlier this month.

 

USPS workers, including mail carriers, have gathered over the past week to protest the job cuts and what they claim is a plan to dismantle the service.

 

It needs to be mentioned that President Biden wanted DeJoy out of the USPS, but only the USPS Board can hire or fire the director. Most of the members of the Board were Republican. Biden replaced Board members as they resigned with Democrats, but he was still one short by the time the 2024 election came around.

 

But DeJoy only lasted 2 months. Republicans need to take note. No matter how much of a "very fine person" you are, how much money you have "donated" to him, how close a friend you think you are, or how much you have sacrificed your integrity, reputation and dignity for him. All it takes is one "no", and Trump "doesn't know you".

 

Especially when you disobey the guy who is really in charge.
