Sam Smith - Back in 1970 I wrote an
article about why DC should become a state. Some months later the DC
Statehood Party was formed which would hold a seat on the city council
and/or school board for some 25 years. The issue has ebbed and flowed
over the years. Once even the NY Times and Washington Post supported it.
