Word: Extremism

Sam Smith (in a 2008 conversation with Carole Kolker)  -  Mark Plotkin, who is on WTOP, interviewed me on my fiftieth anniversary in journalism and I said to him, “If you go back and you look at what I wrote twenty or thirty years ago, it doesn’t seem very extreme at all.” I like to describe myself as a moderate of a time that has not yet come and I compare myself sometimes to the people who got involved in the Spanish Civil War. The FBI referred to them as premature anti-fascists which is a wonderful concept when you think of it: it means you can be prematurely right.
