In response, Claudia Sheinbaum, the Mexican president, said the international community recognises the current name, but she dryly proposed her own renaming: that North America should be known as "América Mexicana" or "Mexican America", citing an 1814 founding document that preceded Mexico's constitution, which referred to it in this way.
