Great thoughts of Ben Carson

It is important to remember that amateurs built the Ark and it was the professionals that built the Titanic. - Ben Carson

Well, its possible to read that in a very "sophisticated" way. If you subscribe to the "profundity" of the Old Testament, you might say that the Ark was created by the original improviser, the God Ben Carson's co-religionists believe in (the Hebrew one is identical, I believe, to the one in the Adventists' creed). That Ark did a great, humanity and Earth saving job, while the overly proud and cocky engineers of the ship that would never sink, while breaking speed records across the Atlantic, were given their come-uppance by the same forces (in the godly sense) that perched the Ark up on top of a mountain. Poor guy, he's lost nonetheless!

It's important because evangelicals have seceded from reality and live in a national cult. There is no political strategy to prevent an evangelical coup, although the nouveau atheism of the North suggests a civil war showdown in another generation.

But there wasn't any ark.

Carson symbolizes the denial of science, while himself trained in science. Booker Washington taught that mastery of science is essential to black upward mobility. Carson is a beneficiary, but serves those who would shut that door to blacks. Perhaps why so many black churches are bombed and burned still today is not because of variant religion or even race, but because they challenge the dominant culture of science denialism.
