Village Voice folds

Sorry to report that the famed New York alternative weekly - a major inspiration for creating the Progressive Review - has folded after 63 years. Among its fine columnists was Nat Hentoff, a major inspiration for jazz musicians like your editor back in the 1950s. Nat Hentoff had been working for Down Beat but got fired when he tried to hire a black writer so he went to the Voice in 1958.
