Transition notes

Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, is the leading contender to be secretary of state in the Trump administration, campaign officials said on Tuesday, as Vice President-elect Mike Pence plans to join President-elect Donald J. Trump in New York to accelerate the process of filling out his cabinet.

  • Former congressman Mike Rogers leaves transition team. It was not immediately clear why Rogers, a widely respected voice on national security, left his position as adviser.
  • Eliot Cohen, a former State Department official under George W. Bush, urged career officials not to serve in a Trump administration. He tweeted: “They’re angry, arrogant, screaming ‘you LOST!’… Will be ugly.”

Amen, anon 11:27
What Trump portends is up for grabs, but with Clinton it'd be a sure bet the bombs would be flying. One might even go so far as to suggest that given the assurance of an intact and near seamless policy transition to a Clinton status quo stewardship, Obama and Ash Carter may well have decided to launch the fireworks a little bit early just to hamstring that Republican dominated legislature. Obstinate though they may be, Republicans somehow always find the wherewithal to justify supporting a wartime president of either duopolistic flavor.
