Word: Armistice Day

Veterans for Peace- We are reclaiming the original intention of Veterans Day by celebrating Armistice Day– and a worldwide call for peace that was spurred by universal revulsion at the huge slaughter of World War I back in 1918. After World War II, the U.S. Congress decided to re-brand November 11 as Veterans Day. Who could speak against that? But honoring the warrior quickly morphed into honoring the military and glorifying war. Armistice Day was flipped from a day for peace into a day for displays of militarism. We must continue to press our government to end reckless military interventions that endanger the entire world. We must call for an end to war.

"End to war" is stupid stupid stupid. There are those who
make war on us now and will continue to do so no matter
what we do. Advocating what is not in our power to do
helps no one. We do need a lot smarter leadership.

Ending war is a good idea.

You can not get to peace through war, and considering the US has lost every war we have fought for 50 years, it is time to get out of the stupid and deadly business. It is time to put the empire to bed, permanently. Start by closing every base overseas.

Think of what we would do if other countries had foriegn bases here. Then think about what our bases feel like to other folks.

After we close the bases, reduce the size of the military by 80% and let the generals and pentagon toadies get real jobs doing something useful, not devising new and better ways to kill, which just makes us less safe. We would then we would have mnoney to solve climate problems and end poverty. No more blood for the oil that ought to stay in the ground.

Earth to Capt. America: We're responsible for what we do, not what they do.

Exhibit A: the US spends more than $1 trillion a year on war, more than the rest of the world combined.
