Democrats lose their safety valve

With Joe Biden dropping out of the race, the Democratic Party has lost its safety valve in case Hillary Clinton is caught up in still more controversy and scandals. Although Democrats won't admit it, the Clintons have been big drags on their party even while holding on to power themselves. A few examples from the end of Bill Clinton years:

  • GOP seats gained in House since Clinton became president: 45
  • GOP seats gained in Senate since Clinton became president: 7
  • GOP governorships gained since Clinton became president: 11
  • GOP state legislative seats gained since Clinton became president: 1,254
  • State legislatures taken over by GOP since Clinton became president: 9
  • Democrat officeholders who have become Republicans since Clinton became
    president: 439 as of 1998
  • Republican officeholders who have become Democrats since Clinton became president: 3
Now the Democrats are betting on the Clintons again and, once again, it's a pretty scary proposition.

Disagree. According to Ed Klein, Biden was hoping to secure a pledge from Obama to indict Hillary or promise to indict if the investigation warranted...and didn't get that promise.

With her Benghazi testimony coming up, he had to announce now - or his decision would appear to be influenced by the outcome.

So, Biden "bides" his time...and waits to be called into service for the party. He certainly sounded like he was giving a campaign speech today. Furthermore, he can campaign in stealth mode, traveling, giving speeches, making news, all under the radar while waiting to see if Hillary implodes - which could happen due to any number of factors - Benghazi revelations, the email investigation, the Clinton cash for favors foundation - or just Clinton being Clinton.

Two words: Bernie Sanders. He outpolls every Republican candidate. The Democrats would be wise to dump Hillary while they still can and demonstrate that their party does actually want to return to their traditional values by backing Bernie.
