Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as crazy, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. - Jack Kerouac, letter to Ed White, 1950

What a crock of shit, we all saw what that generation of "rebels" and "troublemakers" accomplished. Nothing! They became even crueller people than the generation before them. They changed things for sure, for the worse. Capitalism became more despotic when they came of age. What good did that generation bring? Sexual liberation? Sexual liberation was a sham, we now live in a world without love where people shop for mates as if they are shopping for meat from the butcher on websites. Equal rights? Yea, right! We all see equal rights every day, am I right? I hate hippies, not for the values they supposedly espoused, which I and many working class people also feel, but for their utter hypocrisy and lack of depth. While the workers was toiling in their dead end jobs, they were frolicking about being full of shit, and nothing changed for the workers. One thing they were good at, cloaking their utter lack of morals or concern for anyone other than themselves in high-minded rhetoric they didn't really believe in.

Never in history has there been a more selfish, twisted, vain and horrible generation except for the ones that came after them. Now, with technology, each generation becomes more vile and amoral than the last. Where will it end? I suspect with the extinction of this ignoble and disgusting species, and good riddance too.

What about Kerouac himself? He died as what he fundamentally was, a drunk with cirrhosis. Fuck the lot of them, and if you all wonder why I am angry, it is because I believed that nonsense once but after a lifetime of alienation, I see it for what it is. A bunch of beautiful lies that some people used to justify their endless party.
