Third party win in Brooklyn

NY Times - The candidate for the small, progressive Working Families Party decisively won a four-way special election for New York State Assembly in Brooklyn, a strong showing for the labor-backed group. The candidate, Diana Richardson, won a narrow majority of the vote, just over 50 percent, in the election to replace Karim Camara, a Democrat who resigned in January to join Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s administration. The district includes parts of Crown Heights and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. Party officials say Ms. Richardson will become the first member of the State Assembly backed exclusively by the Working Families Party, which has sought to expand its influence in Albany.
