Great moments in politics

We're getting a lot of crazy politicians these days, but it may be some comfort to realize that this is not an entirely new phenomenon. Mike Bell sends us a note about Molly Ivins who claimed at a conference that when comparing crazy pols, she could always come up with the best examples.

One was of a candidate for Texas office (1980s, I think) who spiced up h is campaign by claiming he'd been briefly abducted by a religious cult. Kidnapping's a federal offense, but he was caught by surprise when the FBI came around for details. He disappeared. A federal search finally found him hiding inside a monster stereo speaker in his mother's house.
