Infrequently asked questions: Secession

Sam Smith: How can you be a loyal, patriotic American and secede from the union? I guess I'll have to stick with that Kenyan socialist. At least he wants to be a real American, and doesn't quit the republic when he doesn't like the poll results.

It really depends. I had an old friend who was very patriotic. He just loved the America that he grew up in. Towards the end of his life, he felt very saddened by what America had become. He used to say to me, "if you told me that this would happen to America when I was a kid, I would have said called it science fiction."

For people who knew America when it was great, secession was not an option. For many of us, after Vietnam, Reaganism, Oil Wars and the like - there is a real doubt that the Union is worth saving.

What's patriotism got to do with it? Loyalist reaction isn't an argument. Anyway, secession has long been pursued by the left as well as the right for a variety of reasons besides the outcome of one election.

Hi KM...could you give us an example of someone on the left who advocated secession?

The U.S. Fed Govt is BANKRUPT and has been for many years...it has long ago been captured by the monopolistic financial elements and run for their benefit. Secession is a real and viable option towards formation of a new (free) american republic...with a new currency not based on interest-bearing debt owed to private bankers (masquerading as an agency of the govt (re: FED)

Well...

How can you be a loyal patriotic American and put people out of work here, while building factories in places like China and India?

How can you claim to be a Republican Congressman and “a consistent supporter of pro-life values”, and later have found that your divorced ex-wife had two abortions, and that you had sexual relationships with at least two patients, three coworkers and a drug representative while chief of staff at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, Tenn.?

How can you be a loyal patriotic American and create offshore companies and bank accounts to postpone taxes? Then, when taxes become due, try to change laws to let you escape taxes that are due.

How can you be a loyal patriotic American and head of a U.S. Govt regulatory agency like the Fed, and still go before Congress and eviscerate an honest person like Brooksley Born (former chairwoman of the CFTC), merely because you may not want to regulate against Fraud in the OTC Derivatives Market?

Actually, how can you claim to be a loyal, patriotic American and be a Republican? Or Libertarian?

In 1983 an integrationist populist George Wallace found the path to national reconciliation. The Dems were then bought out by Wall Street and abandoned flyover country. The patient remains etherized upon a table.
