"The phrase "God particle" was coined by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Leon Lederman..." I understand this is actually incorrect and considered an unfortunate label that stuck for no good reason. As I understand it Lederman wanted to name his book "The God-damned Particle" because it's existence seemed to be proven by an elegant mathematical equation but scientists had no idea how to find it, or where or what to look for but his publisher objected to that title and pressed for the change so they agreed on the title, "The God Particle: If the Universe Is the Answer, What Is the Question?"
