Why does the media call Rick Santorum a Christian when he's really a blasphemous bigot?

Freak Out Nation - Recently interviewed by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, Santorum stated that he would not only support a federal Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, but he additionally supports invalidating all legally married same-sex unions.

Note: the media is careful to describe Warren Jeff's FLDS as a breakaway cult from conventional Mormonism, but treats those like Santorum as though they were conventional Christians. If fact, they are apostate extremists who have rewritten Christianity as much, if not more, than Jeffs rewrote Mormanism.

Because the media is truly clueless as to what Christianity is about because Americans in general are bad at religion, and they don't know about the crazier aspects of Mormonism. They should ask the people at exmormon.com.

It's not just the Christian extremists rewriting Christianity. For exhibit 'A' one offers consideration of the New International Version (NIV) bible commonly distributed among various 'conventional' denominations, including some Catholic parishes. The NIV employs a rather free translation technique termed 'dynamic equivalence', rendering many known passages from older, established texts nearly unrecognizable. What's more, the NIV is subject to annual revision--no two consecutive years of publication are necessarily the same complete texts. The intention was to create a more accessible text for modern readers. However the net result was to dumb-down a 12th grade reading level book to a 7.5 reading level, and in the process obliterate the richness, subtlety, and nuance discoverable elsewhere.
Through 'dynamic equivalence' the interpretation, it seems, has become considerably narrowed and pointed towards a specific, limited dogma/agenda.

It's odd that you would label Santorum an apostate from Christianity because he does not accept same sex unions. Till around a century ago, the mainstream Christian position was that males caught engaging in anal intercourse out to be put to death. They were usually burned to death (hence "faggots"). When exactly did the Christian deity change his mind about this?
