Stats: The young and social media

Telegraph, UK - A key group of young users of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube users are using the site less and less, according to new research. One in four 18-29 year-olds told Gartner that their use of social media had declined since they signed up, with many citing boredom as their reason for the decline.

37 per cent claimed that they were actually using social media more than they had been in the past.

In all cases, however, researchers found that “despite the strong media focus on the phenomenon of social media, our respondents did not interact more than once a month (on average) with their favourite site”.  Of those using the sites less, common reasons also included the “superficiality” of friendships online, as well as concerns about digital privacy.
