Israel: A dysfunctional relative, not an ally

Sam Smith

The sooner we get over treating Israel as a sacred ally the sooner the Middle East situation will start to be resolved. Israel is not an ally; it is much more like a dysfunctional relative who we once liked but has worn out our patience and our pocket book to fulfill various addictions. In the case of Israel the cost to us has been over $100 billion.

And that’s before adding in the ancillary expenses such as that of the war on terror. It is not unlikely, for example, that there never would have been a 9/11 if Israel has been acting in a more mature and peace seeking manner in the previous years.

Even the slowest and most incremental progress in peace seeking can calm things down. But we don’t allow peace experts much on our network news shows or at the White House so we don’t hear much about this.

Instead, we egg on, and join in, Israel’s masochistic machismo – as Obama did before AIPAC - and then wonder why we have people trying to blow our things up.

Did a child write this?

Did a diplomat write this?

There would not have been a 911 if Israel had stepped in to prevent it. Whatever Israel's role in 911 (and the fact that Mossad had agents in New Jersey to video the attack proves foreknowledge), our "ally" had the intel -- why were we not told?

There were warnings to the US government about 9/11 that came through the intelligence community, but the upper level decision makers decided to sit on their hands ignoring good information, then not even launch the east coast air defense when the planes left their approved flight paths. 9/11 reeks of complicity from within the US government.

Whatever the true story of 9/11, the fact is that the US earns money and global influence by supporting Israel and by maintaining the status quo in the region. So long as the so-called 'Palestinian Question' remains the most obvious causus belli, no one examines other aspects of U.S. and EU trade and foreign policy very closely. It's a nice little distraction . . .

When your dysfunctional relative is a sociopath, your own life can be in danger.

As long as there is a Saudi Arabia, there will be no peace in the Middle East. If there were no Israel, all the effort that is going into its destruction would be added to the present effort to destroy us.

Tunisia, Egypt, etc. changed the game. Congress's blood lust Monday showed the world, like Bull Connor's dogs, the futility of official racism.

screw israel's agents said...

uss liberty is close.

the forced upon us "relative" is a sociopath, psychopath.

The Israili lobby is just one more beltway bloodsucker that takes money, and kicks back a small portion to our corrupt politicians. Maybe the most powerful in its issue area, along with the NRA. But not essentially different that the rest.

George Friedman, Next Decade 102-3 cooly assesses that: "After the Cold War the benefits to the United States of the relationship have declined while the costs have risen."
But "Jewish political influence is outsized because of carefully organized and funded lobbying efforts." This corruption has nothing to do with imperial strategy. The meme of Israel as ally is a PR tool to justify the corruption, just as the meme of defense justifies the outsized and counterproductive war-profiteer budget.

Until we get money out of politics both memes will continue to cover up the drain of money while simultaneously disserving national interests. This is what our corrupt government now does in every issue area. Learn what you can do to stop it: http://moneyouttapolitics.org/

This "dis-functional" relative keeps you walking your dog in the morning somewhere along Santa Barbara Beach far from real war. Thank God you do not know what it is...
